ABSTRACT
Tuberculosis (TB), caused by the bacillus Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is a significant health problem in developed and developing countries. The lung is the most commonly affected organ, while abdominal TB is the most common extrapulmonary form. Abdominal TB involves the peritoneum, mesentery, lymph nodes, gastrointestinal tract, and solid organs (e.g., liver, spleen, and pancreas) and can be transmitted hematogenously, lymphatically, or via adjacent routes. Because abdominal TB can be confused with diseases requiring aggressive surgery and chemo-radiotherapy, such as peritoneal carcinomatosis and malignant mesothelioma, a thorough understanding of clinical and imaging findings will help patients avoid these treatments and reduce morbidity and mortality.
