ABSTRACT
Emergency radiology is a specialized subfield of radiology that plays a critical role in the rapid diagnosis and management of life-threatening conditions. The use of medical imaging in emergencies began with the discovery of X-rays. Today, technological advancements in imaging methods, such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, have significantly expanded the scope and capabilities of emergency radiology. The field of emergency radiology has diversified to include not only trauma but also the evaluation of neurological, thoracic, abdominal, and vascular emergencies. Modern emergency radiology units are structured to provide high-quality imaging services by integrating technologies such as portable ultrasound devices and advanced image processing software. These units have become an integral part of trauma centers, working in collaboration with surgeons, emergency medicine specialists, and other departments. This article discusses the historical development of emergency radiology, its current role in healthcare, advanced imaging techniques, and the future of emergency radiology in light of artificial intelligence applications.
