ABSTRACT

Inflammatory breast disease is an entity that commonly includes different pathologies such as infectious, non-infectious and malignant inflammation. Non-lactational mastitis and inflammatory breast cancer are clinically similar, and imaging methods have great importance in diagnostic distinction. By using imaging methods correctly in the diagnosis of benign and malignant inflammation, unnecessary biopsies are minimized. In this review, the advantages and disadvantages of ultrasonography, mammography and magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnostic and treatment management of inflammatory breast lesions due to different reasons are compared and new imaging methods are also mentioned.
